About Me

Hi! My name is Lori Malette. The 2016-17 school year marks my eleventh year working at Brushton-Moira Central. This will be my eighth year teaching fourth grade, and I love it! I enjoy this age group immensely. They strive to become more independent and in many cases have found their academic-niche. Because of this, they often create their own goals and challenges. This makes it exciting for me as I have to find ways to link all the students’ strengths and interests to provide activities which meet the standards and make learning challenging, yet exciting. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and the classroom setting and can’t imagine a profession more suitable for myself.

Over the years I have worked as a fourth and fifth grade reading/math consultant teacher, a third grade teaching assistant for reading, a summer reading camp teacher, and a first grade teacher.

I was born and raised in the North Country. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my Master’s in Childhood Education with an Early Childhood extension from SUNY Potsdam. I also hold an Associate’s degree in Interior Design from Cazenovia College.

My family keeps me busy! My husband, Mike, is a musician and also works at BMC. He is the Director of Facilities, and I couldn’t be more thankful that he is such a Mr. Fix-it! From putting up a wall to tearing apart my computer, he can do it all. Our son, Kylor, is 19 years old and has such a creative mind. He is kind, helpful, and computer savvy. It is hard to believe he is already in his second year at Canton College. Kalista, our daughter, is 16. She is quite a fashion diva and has many talents. She sings like an angel, plays the flute, acts, and has an artistic flair to boot. We couldn’t be more proud of them both!

My hobbies include scrapbooking, reading, traveling, taking pictures, and riding my motorcycle. My favorite family past-times are riding 4-wheelers, playing board games, and snuggling while watching a movie.
